Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
I have the tastiest, quickest weeknight meal for you!
I fixed this last night and even my pickiest eater enjoyed his meal. :)
This recipe calls for ground pork and some ingredients can be substituted to meet your preferences or simply use what you have on hand without making yet another grocery run.
Maybe you’re like my friend, Stefanie, who gets stumped on how to use all of her ground pork? I’m here to help!
Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
(Recipe adapted from Dinner Then Dessert)
This recipe will give you 6 sandwiches and be on the table in 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
2 pounds ground pork
2 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion, diced
1 small green bell pepper, diced
8 ounces mushrooms, minced
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup beef broth
sliced provolone (I didn’t have any, so I used shredded mozzerella. Still good!)
6 brioche hamburger buns (go ahead and plan for these. Much better than regular buns.)
Directions:
Add ground pork to skillet and brown completely. While your meat is cooking, dice up your vegetables.
Once the meat is cooked, remove from pan and drain. Add your diced vegetables to the skillet. It’s ok if there is still some grease in the pan. It just adds flavor! Add some butter to the pan and cook vegetables until soft.
Add the ground pork back into the skillet with the vegetables.
Mix the beef broth and cornstarch together. Then add ketchup, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper to the broth mixture.
Pour this mix into the skillet. Cook until the sauce thickens up and isn’t quite so liquid.
Line a pan with parchment paper. Put cheese down on the bottom buns, scoop the meat onto the buns, and top with more cheese. Place the top bun on and spread a little butter on the top.
Pop these sloppy joes in the oven at 350 degrees for a few minutes. You’re mainly just melting the cheese and butter.
Enjoy!
